This book is a sequel to the earlier book “The Courtyard Wada of Maharashtra”. While the earlier compilation has a detail of 9 wadas, this is a compilation of 13 which were not featured earlier. It would have been unfair, not getting these in print and depriving readers of this vast heritage.
The chapter on Nandurbar and Pimpalner in the region of Khandesh shows details of woodwork which were of Hindu origin, influenced by the woodwork of Gujarat. Deep recessed woodwork had its origins in the Hindu ornamentation of Gujarat, a state which borders Nandurbar and Pimpalner. The photographs of Nandurbar and Pimpalner approximately 60 years old taken by Professor Mate, who has mentored me through this research. His book on Deccan woodwork has some images.
